Kitty Hawk's plane, the De Havilland Beaver, is one of the most remarkable planes that has ever been built. It was manufactured by the De Havilland Canada company between the years of 1948 and 1967 with a total of 1650 to 1700 aircraft ultimately being built (depending on who you ask). But despite being out of production for more than forty years the Beaver is such an amazing and well-loved aircraft that there are hundreds of them still flying. In addition to being tough they are also very versatile and can be outfitted with wheels or skis (for snow) or pontoon floats (for water). Kitty's trusty De Havilland Beaver is, of course, outfitted with pontoons for take-off and landing on water. Check out the plane's wikipedia.org entry if you're interested in finding out more about this amazing little airplane.
