The home I return to in Holland seems to be much the same as I left it. But big things have happened. Biljana Plavsic has plead guilty in my absence. Big news, but it doesn’t seem like the world has been altered as a result.
I do notice a lot of flags at half-mast though. And a lot of police hanging around.
On my way home with some Burger King I stop to talk to a couple of police officers to find out what is going on.
Prins Claus has died?!? Oh my god! Not unexpected as he’s been sick for quite some time, but shocking none the less.
That’s how I found out. 23h15 at night, standing at Noordeinde with a bag full of Burger King. The police officers tell me to enjoy my meal as I take my leave of them.
So the world really has changed. But keeps going all the same, doesn’t it?
Interesting, that.
Oh well.
All this brings us to the denouement of the adventure tales. There’s not much left to do except show you whatever remaining pictures from the entire trip that are left over. (All the pictures that I didn’t include in the day-to-day reports...)
I didn’t include these pictures in the first place because in many cases they were just excessive duplication of the same stuff we’d already seen. Either that or the pictures just weren’t as good (for example: the early morning Manhattan pictures are taken in Low-Light mode which made them rather fuzzy).
But that aside I hope that they might be of some interest. (But I’ll spare you the commentary.)
So here goes.... (In chronological order)
QE2 Pictures
Sailing Into New York Harbour
(Here you can see the starboard wing of the bridge deck and one of the officers standing out on it.)
(The Statue of Liberty)
(This and the following few pictures show Ground Zero)
(A close-up of the American Flag Heart at Ground Zero)
(Lower Manhattan by early morning blue glow)
(The end of the many pictures of the tugboat)
(The LoveBoat's sister ship. You can see the familiar Princess Cruise Line logo on the funnel.)
New York
(I liked the artistic handiwork on the facade of this building.)
