And in the end, the love you takeIs equal to the love you make... Well, what did you expect from a day where the only activity is flying? Having driven early to Calgary from Medicine Hat we are now in the air and headed east toward Toronto. Down below are the unmistakable signs of mankind upon the Earth. Coming in for a landing in Toronto gives a distant view of downtown and the CN Tower and SkyDome. (Look really closely... REALLY REALLY closely.) A few hours later after navigating the mess that is Lester B Pearson Airport we are airborne again and on our way to Amsterdam. I really like having this flight split in half, I have to say. It makes the travel so much more pleasant. (Sleeping almost entirely on both flights doesn't hurt either, of course.) With the adventures behind us now it is time to reflect upon what we have seen and done. No, wait. It's time to sleep. Good night. Yawn! Where are we now? Oh! Hey! We're over the North Sea on descent into Amsterdam. That works out nicely for me. Perhaps now is the time to reflect on our adventures and think about all the things we've seen and done? Hey! There's a boat down there! Well? What can we say about this trip? It was pretty long, but wonderful all along the way, of course. We saw that Canada is indeed a land of vast nature and incredible contrasts. And yet, we've hardly scratched the surface of what Canada has to offer. In the past six months we've visited only three of Canada's ten provinces and three territories, and only visited only three or four of its major cities. There is so much more. This is really it, isn't it? We've crossed the coastline of the European mainland now and in just a few minutes the vacation will officially be over. This is a cool picture, isn't it? I take this picture to symbolise the end of our epic journey together to the other side of the world. I also take it just in case we crash and the investigators need some help figuring out what went wrong. Thank you for bearing my photos and commentary the past weeks. This is it until the next trip, I guess. I think it was a pretty good travelogue. The best one I have done thus far, that's for sure. I am particularly happy that I was able to pick music for each day that was actually what I was listening to during this trip (because it's what I brought with me or what I heard on the radio or in concert) AND that the music selected actually fit the "concept" of each day. Maybe that is just me thinking way too much, but I think that it is also kind of cool. Today's music, for example, is perfect. (I feel I should talk about this not only because I think it's interesting but also because there aren't many pictures today so I need to keep you occupied until the song is over.) Not only was it something I burned on CD to listen to on this trip, but it also perfectly fits the fact that today is the final day of this travelogue. For those who might not know it the music is a live version of two Beatles songs. The first of these songs was the second to last song on their Sgt Pepper Album and is paves the way for end of that particular album (and for this travelogue as well) by saying "We're Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, we hope you have enjoyed the show... we're sorry but it's time to go...". This then goes on to say "We're Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, it's getting very near The End...". Now, when The Beatles first sang those lyrics they didn't know that a few years later they would be ending their recording career with a song actually CALLED "The End". Paul McCartney neatly takes this in his live show and goes directly from that line on Sgt Pepper to the final song on the final Beatles album to close out his show... The End. And I guess that is what this is. Thank you again. Bye! |
