A strange fog covers the city of Medicine Hat this morning. But this morning is a day I've been waiting for. Today I will FINALLY get a haircut from the same guy who's been cutting my hair since I was five, but who I couldn't get a haircut from since I left Canada in 1998 and therefore haven't had a cool haircut since then. Today I go in with the worst haircut in the world, and hopefully in a half hour I will be cool again.

AFTER

Much better. Back to the 90s haircut again. Too bad I am not back to the 90s weight. When did I get so fat (and un-attractive), and how did that happen?!?? Jesus!

Notice the Embassy Salon in the background... that's the salon that Manuel, my hairdresser, owns. My haircut was $12 (8€) and took less than ten minutes.

13:00:27

There's not much on the schedule for today. Just looking around in stores in anticipation of going shopping with my mom in a couple of days. For lunch we go to a favourite restaurant called Moxie's. They used to have these really great Fajitas, but for some reason they stopped having those. Sigh. I have the Beef Dip instead.

13:00:41

Today's special was a Calamari salad. It's not Fajitas though... those were sure good. Why did they get rid of them?!??

13:12:49

You can tell that my mom joined us for lunch. For a retired person living in an old folks home she has several jobs and is rushing around all the time. She dashes off from lunch early leaving only a mess and a rubber band to show that she was there.

14:24:58

I've decided that London Drugs is the greatest store in the world. Despite the name they have a lot more than just pharmaceuticals. They have everything, from computer games to iPods to CDs and DVDs to high-end cameras to whatever else. And they are usually the cheapest place to buy anything.

It should be mentioned that Canada is the cheapest place in the world to buy CDs. If you doubt this just check out the price tag on Pink Floyd's The Wall album. And that price was actually not even right. It was actually only $21.99.

It is ironic that while I was living in Canada I could never quite bring myself to buy The Wall album on CD because it cost too much. And then I went to Europe where it cost two and a half times as much and got it there.

15:02:20

Hmmmmmm. The fact that I agree with this sign might explain how I ended up so fat and un-attractive. But oh my god does Dairy Queen have unbelievable good burgers!!!!!

The secret of the Dairy Queen burger is two-fold:

1) High mustard level.

2) Slightly burned burgers to give that homemade flavour.

And so we turn again to the West. Today is yet another driving day as we set off for the city of Lethbridge where we shall spend the night.

18:37:26

I'll spare you the drive and just skip ahead to the waterpark of the Lethbridge Ramada hotel, which was quite cool.

18:38:43

It's not the World Water Park (which we'll see more of later in the trip) but it's still fun.

19:38:31

There seem to be a lot more traffic lights in Lethbridge than I remember. And they all seem to change at the same time. There's about 10 green lights stretching out ahead of us to the horizon. Where's the sense in that?!??

19:46:35

Seeing the sunset from the window of the hotel makes me wish that we were down in the river valley downtown to watch it. Oh well.

21:17:50

And with that we arrive at the greatest Japanese restaurant in the world. In Lethbridge, yes. The reason for this, as I have explained in the past, is because during the Second World War Lethbridge was where the government stuffed all the Japanese Canadians into concentration camps and once the war was over many of them just kind of stayed here.

21:20:00

My new haircut reduces my doofus factor by about 2000%, wouldn't you say?

21:39:34

And with that we reach the end of a somewhat short photo day, but a fantastic Japanese food eating day. Clockwise from top-left are: Chicken Yakitori, Sushi, Tempura Prawns, and Terriyaki Beef.
